Mitsubishi Chemical America, Inc. | Specialty Resins Division Product Overview

The objective...
for Mitsubishi Chemical Americas, Inc. | Specialty Resins Division is to provide the most innovative, highest quality resins to the coating, adhesive and ink industries.

The Specialty Resins Division suspension polymerization manufacturing process...
is ideally suited to the controlled synthesis and custom manufacture of specialty resins. We are pleased to offer a range of resins, with a wide selection of molecular weight (Mw), glass transition temperature (Tg), functionality (including acid and hydroxyl) and solution viscosity. The breadth of the molecular weight range (10,000 to 400,000) in our commercial product offerings demonstrates the flexibility of our manufacturing process. Similarly the Tg values of our products range from 35 to 113
°C.

Solid Beads...
The Specialty Resins Division's resins are solid, free flowing, non-dusting, spherical beads, with a typical mean particle size of about 150 microns. This unique product form offers many benefits to the formulator including greater flexibility in solvent selection, rapid dissolution, and the elimination of shipping, storing, and handling of hazardous solvents.

Potential Benefits...
The optimal selection and use of monomers in the design and manufacture of our acrylic resins allows the production of products that offer a range of potential benefits to the formulator including:

  • Excellent Weathering
  • Chemical Resistance
  • Water Clear Transparency
  • Good Resistance to Discoloration; Non-Yellowing
  • Outstanding Durability
  • Toughness
  • Rigidity
  • Flexibility
  • Hardness
  • Exceptional Resistance to Mineral, Vegetable and Hydrocarbon Oil
  • Mineral Spirit Solubility Available When Desired
  • Improved Adhesion
  • Chemical Functionality

The narrow molecular weight distribution, or polydispersity, of our specialty resins offers advantages when compared with similar solution polymerization products. The tight polydispersity eliminates the smaller molecular weight fraction that contributes to poor weathering, brittleness, and inferior toughness.

Each Specialty Resin resin grade has its own characteristic features. The variation and versatility of the resins can be further enhanced and exploited by blending with each other or with other additives such as plasticizers. This allows the formulator to select the ideal combinations of price and performance for the final application.

Building Blocks...
Dianal uses a wide variety of monomers in the production of the product line, including, but not limited to:

  • Styrenic Monomers - Styrene, divinyl benzene, vinyl toluene
  • Methacrylate Monomers - Methyl methacrylate, isobutyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, isobornyl methacrylate, t-butyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, hydroxyethyl methacrylate, hydroxypropyl methacrylate, diethylaminoethyl methacrylate
  • Acrylate Monomers - Ethyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, acrylic acid
